Robinhood Expands into Indonesia with Dual Acquisition of Brokerage and Crypto Trading Platform
Robinhood makes strategic move into Southeast Asia's largest economy through acquisitions of PT Buana Capital Sekuritas and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto. The deals, pending regulatory approval from Indonesia's Financial Services Authority, position the trading platform to capitalize on a market with 19 million capital market investors and 17 million crypto users.
Indonesia's crypto transaction volume surged to $39.7 billion in 2024, with Chainalysis ranking the nation seventh globally for digital asset adoption. The acquisitions signal Robinhood's ambition to capture market share in a region where retail trading activity has tripled in two years.
Transaction terms remain undisclosed, with both deals expected to close by mid-2026. The MOVE comes as Indonesia's financial regulators implement stricter oversight of digital asset platforms while recognizing crypto as a tradable commodity.
